After decades of wrestling with the railings that protect the wicket on the Village Green from ponies and cattle, Burley CC have started a crowdfunding campaign to buy a new set on wheels.
Sport England's Active Together Crowdfunder UK scheme will match pound-for-pound all money raised by the club from players, members, the public and funds secured from other grant applications, which the club are making.
The cost of a new set of railings, which will need padlocking together for insurance and painting black to satisfy the Verderers, is around £12,500.
Getting railings on wheels will help the adult sides and also the youth section as at younger age groups, such as U9, games are only six-a-side and shifting railings around the wicket with only a handful of parents is difficult.
Portable railings on wheels can be shifted in a string and will also reduce the large number of different people who move railings at adult and junior matches throughout the season, which is not hygienic in the current health environment but with only a handful of parents is time-consuming.
