Burley Cricket Club

Burley Cricket Club 1st XI v Ryde II on Sat 02 Jun 2012 at 1400
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 53 runs

Match report Despite slumping to a fourth consecutive league defeat this was a much more positive Burley performance. The loss leaves Burley perilously close to the foot of the Division 1 table but encouraging league debuts for the club from Ash Nayak and Stu Hall, a return to form with the bat for Wayne Tucker and runs for Ben Crowley point towards better results in the coming weeks.
Things began in their usual way for Burley with skipper, Kieron Hudson, losing the toss and Burley heading into the field first - AGAIN!! An opening stand of 107 between Gillett and Dickinson set the Ryde innings for a big total despite some very tidy bowling from Wayne Tucker (10-2-27-0) and Craig Doick in his first spell (6-1-32-0).
A change of bowling brought Ash Nayak into the attack and his wily off spin kept the batsmen on their toes. Stu Hall replaced Tucker in the attack and despite being a little expensive picked up the vital wicket of Dickinson for 61 and showed that he will be an asset to the squad. Finding a way to cover the fifth bowler was again costly, Rob Munro the fall guy this week (33 off of 4 overs) and with Doick's return to the attack (2 overs for 20) also leaking runs coupled with Darren Hall's explosive hitting (55) meant that the Ryde innings crept over the 200 mark finishing on 210-6.
The Burley reply did not start well. Skipper, Hudson caught behind off of Davis' second over chasing another wayward Davis delivery for a duck but then a stand of 73 between Tucker and Rob Munro kept the scoreboard ticking along with Burley a steady 10 or so runs behind the comparitive Ryde score. Munro was the first of the pair to fall for 26 and then Tucker, who had been trying to increase the run rate, followed quickly for 40. A sucsession of quick wickets (those of Dan Maher, Alec Moorman and Alan Vernon) took the game away from Burley and put Ryde into the driving seat. Some big hitting from Ben Crowley, 33 off of 21 balls, including 3 consecutive sixes, gave Burley a glimmer of hope but Crowley's dismissal signalled the end of that hope. The final two wickets fell cheaply and the Burley innings concluded after 34.5 overs for 157.
