Burley Cricket Club 1st XI v Whiteparish on Sat 08 Jun 2013 at 14.00
Match was Tied

Match report In what can only be described as a topsy turvy game of cricket both Whiteparish and Burley shared the points in a tied match in Regional Division 1.
Winning the toss, Whiteparish skipper Rich Hamblin decided to bat but along with his top order found the going tough. Good opening spells from James Edworthy and Jim Burry kept the run rate under control and by drinks the Whiteparish score looked a mediocre 63-4.
In the games first twist Josh Green then cut loose, dispatching the ball to all parts, lots in the air and always tending to drop into a space between fielders. His fortune was aided by, what can only be described, as inept bowling and fielding. The bowlers were delivering like slot machines and woeful fielding (including 7 dropped catches)meant that the Whiteparish innings amassed quickly and went past the 200 mark with Green bringing up his 100 with a six off of the final ball.
At drinks Burley were considering a total of no more than 170 but that had disappeared as had the sight from Guy Clifford's left eye having taken a blow it whilst fielding at short extra cover.
In reply Burley again started well. Kieron Hudson and Jonathan Beck again put on nearly 50 for the first wicket but Hudson fell for 13 mis-timing a drive into the grateful arms of mid wicket. At drinks with the total a healthy 103-2 both Beck and Alec Moorman (34) were batting well. But the wheels came off of the reply when, firstly, Moorman was bowled by Dovey and then Beck, having just gone past 100 encountered the same fate. The score went from 151-2 to 177-9 in just 9 overs and left Burley facing defeat or needing 32 from the final 3 overs.
Some pinch hitting from Mick Callaghan and Jim Burry scrambled the score to 195 with an over to go. Callaghan facing - 14 required. Dot, 4, 1. Three balls left, Burry facing - 9 required. Front foot planted, ball in slot, 6 runs over long off. Ball five saw a single and so with one ball remaining 2 were required for victory. Unfortunately the delivery caught Callaghan on the glove and the pair only scrambled a single and the game, that had ebbed and flowed throughout ended in a draw with both teams collecting 17 points.
The 1st XI travel to Brockenhurst next Saturday in another all Forest clash.
