Parley v Burley Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 20 Jul 2013 at 14.00
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report In what can only be described as a huge Stone Cup hangover, Burley slumped to a second, consecutive league defeat of the season, this time at the hands of Parley. How quickly the euphoria of Stone Cup victory 24 hours earlier was lost as a poor display left Burley with just 5 points from the game and slipping back into the chasing pack for promotion where just three weeks previous they were setting the pace alongside Mottisfont.
On winning the toss Burley elected to bat first looking to set a formidable total for Parley to chase. The normally reliable opening pair of Kieron Hudson and Jonathan Beck failed. Beck was caught by Clarke off of the bowling of Elrick without scoring and Hudson made just 8 before being bowled by Fowler-Watts. James Edworthy and Alec Moorman offered some resistence to a good bowling attack. Moorman top scored with 22 and Edworthy 15 but it was extras that boosted the Burley total significantly. 50 extras in total, 37 of them wides. Steve Doick made 19 but Fowler-Watts stole the show taking 6-46 in his 10 overs and dismissing Burley for 147.
In reply Parley lost just 3 wickets reaching the total in a measured reply. Despite taking nearly 40 overs the result was never in doubt with the top 4 batsmen all making an impact on the scoreboard. Wayne Tucker was the pick of the Burley bowlers with 1-33 from his 10 overs. A disappointing Saturday was confounded by defeat for the 2nd XI as well. It means that both sides now really need to finish the season on an unbeaten run. The 2's remain in second place in Division 4 South West but Winton are closing in, but with 3 teams going up, promotion is very much still in their own hands. For the 1st XI the outcome is more tricky. Only 2 sides are promoted and defeat has pushed them further away from Mottisfont and Whiteparish who are leading the way at present.
