Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI v Lord Toads on Sun 16 Jun 2013 at 14:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 94 runs
Match report
Another game, another emphatic win, another record broken. Skipper Daniel Tucker managed to win the toss again and elected to bat first in a 35 over contest. Burley's innings was a one-man show as opening batsman Callum Maher blasted 168, the highest Sunday score in recent history. Fellow opener Alex Martin was the first to go in just the second over as Ali Wiseman took a stunning one-handed diving catch at gully. Maher and Charlie Moorman (14) then put on 85 before Nick Tyler bowled Moorman. Burley were well set on 95-2 after 12 overs but then a collapse of wickets left Burley in trouble on 105-5 after Alec Moorman, Marcus Reynolds and Charlie Lambourne all came and went without troubling the scorers too much! Callum Maher was then joined at the crease by his younger brother Dan. The pair putting on 65 before Dan was bowled for 19 (the second-highest score of the innings!) James Rapson and Matt Fletcher then came and went quickly before Maher and Tucker put on a last-wicket stand of 54, Tucker playing the support role making 1 not out! Having taken an over of Matt Leather for 29, Maher looked to have set his sights on 200 but unfortunately he was the last man out, caught at deep mid-wicket. Despite a brilliant knock including 25 boundaries and 7 sixes, Maher had a slight feeling of regret that he couldn't go on to reach a double-hundred, with there still being 5.4 overs for him to do so.
In the field and with victory never in doubt Burley used a total of 8 bowlers and bowled Lord Toads out for 157 in just 26.3 overs. James Rapson set the tone with an economical spell of 4-3-4-1, picking up the wicket of ex-Burley Sunday captain Nick Tyler for a duck. There was also a rare bowling spell for wicket-keeper Alec Moorman picking up 2 wickets before Dan Maher cleaned up with the final 3 wickets. After Callum Maher had starred with the bat, it was skipper Daniel Tucker's turn to lead by example in the field, taking 4 catches in the outfield - much to the surprise of his team-mates! Ali Wiseman (47) was the main-stay of the Toad's innings and Matt Leather played an entertaining cameo of 24 before both became victims of Tucker's safe hands.
Overall a comprehensive victory for Burley and the team look forward to continue their good form in the coming weeks.
