Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI v Compton & Chandlers Ford on Sun 14 Jul 2013 at 14:30
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 34 runs

Match report On another glorious day Burley skipper Daniel Tucker again lost the toss and again Burley were in the field first. Charlie Lambourne made the breakthrough in the 6th over when he bowled Compton's overseas batsman N Gilbert for 22. This led to a flurry of wickets, James Rapson picking up the next one when he bowled other opener J Stewart the over later before Lambourne picked up another three wickets to leave Compton & Chandlers Ford struggling on 59-5 after 14 overs. Lambourne completing his spell with figures of 7-0-34-4 to carry on his fine bowling form and remaining leading wicket-taker for the Sunday XI. Young leg-spinner Tom Allam then picked up his first wicket for the club and that left Compton on 81-6 at the half-way stage. The first half of the innings definitely belonged to Burley but A Murkitt (32), M Scorey (55) and E Sharpe (33*) steadily repaired the innings before taking the attack to Burley's less regular bowling options and Compton & Chandlers Ford batted out their 35 overs, recovering well to post a competetive score of 217-8.

With Alec Moorman, Greg Jones, Alex Martin and Callum Maher all missing from the Burley side it was a weakened batting order than normal and much would depend on first team skipper Kieron Hudson. Hudson and Marcus Reynolds got Burley off to a good tempo with the 50 partnership coming up inside 10 overs. However Reynolds was then adjudged lbw to give Compton their breakthrough. Hudson carried on batting fluently and his half-century came in the 16th over. Although unfortunately the next ball he faced he edged behind and that was the key wicket for Compton. With a lack of firepower and experience left in the Burley batting order Compton were well in control of the game and Z Williams (4-22) and M Scorey (3-24) ripped through the depleted middle-order, only no. 10 James Rapson (24) offering any resistance as Burley limped along, the innings being completed when last man Matt Fletcher was bowled to leave Burley 34 runs short.

So with the winning streak of five in a row coming to an abrupt end, next up for Burley Sunday XI is another home game, Droxford the visitors, and hopefully Burley will be back to winning ways.
