Hospital Services v Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 01 Sep 2013 at 14:30
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report A very new-look Burley Sunday XI traveled to Hospital Services. With a couple of late drop-outs due to lame excuses, to go with the absence of several regular players Burley's teamsheet included 3 players from Bransgore, 75 year-old veteran Brian Price, skipper Daniel Tucker with a broken finger, and even usual umpire Pete Fryer had to roll back the years to make up the numbers! What could possibly go wrong?! It goes without saying that Daniel Tucker lost the toss. Opposing captain Dan Murray electing to field first and so Jason Robertson and Callum Taylor went out to bat for Burley. With a weakened lower order it was vital that the top order dug in and made runs for Burley. With the top three all nursing hangovers from their Bransgore promotion celebrations the night before, this was easier said than done. Jason Robertson mistimed a pull to be caught in just the 2nd over. Greg Jones came and went for 12 and Charlie Moorman went shortly after. Burley were in trouble at 57-3 off 15 and it was left to Callum Taylor and Dan Maher to rebuild the innings and take Burley to a competitive score. The pair batted brilliantly, Taylor passing 50, before putting momentum into the Burley innings, the partnership ending at 90 when Maher was dismissed for 32 to leave Burley on 147-4 with 5.4 overs to go. Some more big-hitting and good running between the wickets ensured Burley posted a score of 193-4 from their 35 overs. Taylor brought up his 100 in the last over and finished unbeaten on 111. An excellent innings that held the innings together and took Burley to a score that is above par at the ground. In doing so Taylor became the 7th different centurion for Burley Sunday XI this year.

In reply Bamford got Hospital Services off to a good start, playing aggressively. Lambourne made the breakthrough in the 9th over having Gunatillake caught behind for 12. J Oakes came in and was dropped early on by Tucker at square leg before Bamford was put down at gully by Taylor off the bowling of Jones. Matt Fletcher accounted for both their wickets. Firstly bowling Bamford for 56 before taking a return catch off Oakes (30). But with Hospital Services being well-placed on 126-3 requiring just another 68 at 5 an over, S Mercer 54* and J Bingham 26* saw them over the line in the 32nd over to complete a comfortable 7 wicket victory. With Matt Fletcher only fit enough to bowl spin and Greg Jones only able to bowl three overs, Burley were probably a couple of bowlers short but it was a good effort nonetheless.
