Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI v Lex 11 on Sun 04 Aug 2013 at 14.30
Burley Cricket Club Won by 50 runs

Match report Another lost toss for Daniel Tucker, but this time Burley were asked to bat first in a 35 over contest. Lex captain Sam Freeman looked to have made a good decision in electing to bowl when both Burley openers Callum Taylor and Charlie Moorman were back in the pavilion with just 10 on the scoreboard. Michael Moorman and Alex Martin set about rebuilding the innings and were both looking comfortable until M Moore had Moorman (17) caught and bowled to end the partnership of 40. Things went from bad to worse when Moore bowled Alex Martin (19) just 3 balls later to leave Burley in deep trouble at 50-4. Martin Rapson and Dan Maher were at the crease both on zero, and Rapson dominated a partnership of 23 before being bowled for 17 to leave Burley 73-5. With the top half of the Burley order all gone, Dan Maher and James Rapson were left with the huge task of rebuilding the innings and getting Burley to a competitive total, with not much batting to come after them. Rapson survived a strong lbw appeal first ball before taking the attack to Lex. The pair put on 121 in 15 overs before Rapson was caught in the deep for a very attacking and much needed innings of 76 including 10 boundaries and 3 huge sixes. The pair had transformed the innings and Burley were now in a very good position on 186-6 off 30. A welcome return to form for Dan Maher also saw him go past 50 and he ended the innings unbeaten on 65 having played a huge part in guiding Burley to a commanding total of 236.

With the ball Lambourne and Driscoll failed to make an early breakthrough, G Esterhusen (42) getting Lex off to an aggressive start and they were going well at 67-0 off 12 before Matt Fletcher got the much-needed wicket of Esterhusen, Driscoll taking the catch out at fine leg. Lex then collapsed to 90-5 due to a superb spell of 7-0-22-4 from Matt Fletcher who was on a hat-trick at one stage. With the run-rate slowed right down and the wickets tumbling victory was no longer in doubt for Burley and although there was only one more wicket to fall, Callum Taylor having T Killick caught in the slips by Fletcher, Lex finished a long way short on 186-6 to give Burley a comfortable victory by 50 runs. The highlight of the Lex innings being M Moore hitting the last ball of the innings from Lamboure for six to bring up his 50 to go with his 3 wickets earlier in the day.

Up next for Burley Sunday XI is a home fixture against Fair Oak.
