Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI v Gentlemen of the New Forest on Sun 28 Jul 2013 at 14:30
Match was Drawn

Match report It was back to the old days of timed cricket for Burley this week with Gentlemen of the New Forest's captain Ken Bishop knowing this was his team's best chance of a result. Stand-in skipper Alec Moorman lost the toss but Bishop put Burley in to bat giving them the opportunity to score plenty of runs before his team could do their utmost to bat out a draw. Kieron Hudson and Charlie Moorman went out to bat, and after a watchful start, the pair soon got in to their stride and the runs flowed. The 50 partnership was bought up in the 12th over, before Moorman was caught behind for 23 with the score on 67. Alex Martin came and went quickly. James Rapson, playing just as a batsman, came to the crease in an advanced position and him and Hudson set about taking the attack to the bowlers. The pair put on 96 for the 3rd wicket before Rapson was bowled for 57. It was Rapson's first ever 50 and came in quick-time at better than a run a ball including 10 boundaries. Shortly after, Hudson brought up his 100, an innings that also saw him sail past 1000 runs for the season, before retiring to bring Steve Moorman to the crease to join younger brother Alec. The pair upped the run-rate further, largely due to a quick-fire 43 not out from Alec Moorman, taking Burley past the 250 mark in the last over.

After tea, Gentlemen of the New Forest's openers Wilkins and Todd got their side off to a flier, bringing up the 50 in just the 8th over. The pair continued to give the chase a good go and with opening bowlers Charlie Lambourne and Tom Allam failing to find a breakthrough, Gentlemen of the New Forest were well placed on 93-0 after 17 overs, going into the final 20 overs. However, Matt Fletcher finally made the breakthrough, James Rapson taking a sharp catch at gully to dismiss Todd for 44. In the very next over Marcus Reynolds had Wilkins caught at mid-on for 41 and so with both openers out in the space of a few balls Gentlemen of the New Forest made their intentions clear that they were going to bat out at the overs and claim a draw. With men surrounding the bat to the spinners Reynolds and Maher, most balls were dead-batted and no.3 Hurrell made sure the draw was claimed, finishing unbeaten on 11 when time was called after 37 overs. Matt Fletcher (6-0-18-2) and Marcus Reynolds (9-4-24-1) were the pick of the bowlers but unfortunately Burley could only pick up 6 wickets and so had to settle for a draw.
