Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI v BSSA on Sun 11 May 2014 at 14:30
Burley Cricket Club Won by 153 runs

Match report Burley Sunday XI made it two wins from two with another resounding victory, this time against BSSA, with Burley's batters again providing great entertainment. Burley skipper Daniel Tucker lost the toss and Burley were put in to bat by a slightly weaker BSSA side than usual. Callum Maher and James Edworthy went out to bat and quickly set the tone for the innings with a brutal assault on the BSSA bowlers. The pair brought up the fifty partnership in just the 7th over without being troubled by the opening bowlers. The run-rate only increased with both Maher and Edworthy punishing any bad ball bowled at them. The breakthrough finally came when Edworthy attempted one big hit too many and was caught for 48, an innings that included 4 boundaries and 4 sixes. The opening partnership had accounted for 99 runs in just 11.4 overs. Three balls later, however, Maher was well caught on the boundary and BSSA were relieved to see both openers back in the pavilion. Steve Moorman then edged behind, his dad Charlie was run out, and Dan Maher was bowled first ball and suddenly Burley had collapsed to 132-5 off 21 overs. The innings was then in the balance and for Burley to get to a commanding score no.3 Alex Martin would have to bat the majority of the overs. Martin and Jim Burry patiently settled in, rotating the strike, before both destructively upped the run-rate again and boundaries were again easy to come by. Martin (63*) and Burry (50*) took Burley well past 200 in a partnership worth 109, both sportingly retiring to give the tail a little bat in the last couple of overs and Burley managed to get to 252 at the end of their 35 overs.

After tea, BSSA openers came out needing to score at a rate of 7.2 runs per over. The pair looked to have given up the task of winning the game, Jonny Blundell (7-3-11-1) and Charlie Lambourne (5-3-10-1) more than keeping the run-rate below what was required. So much so that after 15 overs BSSA only had 32 on the board. The innings never got going, and with the exception of David McWilliam (53), the rest of the batters found runs hard to come by. The introduction of Harvey Burry in to the bowling attack saw the youngster pick up two wickets in his first over, before James Edworthy (3-5) swiftly ended the match in the 29th over to complete a one-sided victory by a margin of 153 runs.

Next up for Burley Sunday XI is another home fixture, at home to Bramshaw.
