Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI v Curdridge on Sun 08 Jun 2014 at 14:30
Burley Cricket Club Won by 78 runs

Match report Burley Sunday XI made it four wins out of five with another comprehensive win, this time the margin being 78 runs. On a beautiful day at the picturesque Burley School Green, Curdridge were the visitors. At the toss visiting skipper Nick Hillier asked to increase the normal 35 over format to 38 overs. Daniel Tucker won the toss and quickly elected to send his batters out for the first knock. Once again his batters didn't let him down as James Edworthy stole the show, powerfully striking a faultless 101. His knock was the first Burley century of the season and included 15 boundaries and 2 sixes. James was well supported by his father Ian, compiling his 2nd consecutive half century in a partnership worth 140 before the pair retired. At the end of their 38 overs Burley had amassed a total of 235 for the loss of only three wickets, and two retirees.

After tea Jonny Blundell got Burley off to the perfect start hitting the stumps with just the second ball. This set the tone for the innings as after just 11 overs Curdridge found themselves in total disarray with 6 wickets down for 57 on the board. Opening bowlers Blundell (3-18) and Marcus Reynolds (2-30) had ripped through the top order, aided by a great run out from Danny Maher. Meanwhile at the other end South-African number 3 M Ferrero had taken the attack to the bowlers. Having been given a couple of lives early on Ferrero blasted his way to a quickfire 85 including 13 boundaries and 4 sixes before Dan Maher finally picked up the key wicket. Nobody else in the Curdridge line up was able to offer any resistance with nobody else making double figures. Extras was comfortably the 2nd highest scorer of the innings with a grand total of 25. The match was concluded when Ian Edworthy picked up the final wicket and Curdridge had been bowled out for 157 in only 24.2 overs. It could have been a lot worse for the visitors had Burley not been so sloppy in the field in dropping no less than 6 catches! Who said catches win matches!? Overall another good performance against a very friendly Curdridge team. Next up for Burley Sunday XI is their first away day of the season, Coombe Bissett being the hosts.
