Pylewell Park v Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 17 Aug 2014 at 14:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 72 runs

Match report Burley Sunday XI returned to winning ways against a Pylewell Park side containing a mixture of experience and youth. Burley made the trip to Pylewell Park following a pre-match pub lunch on route. Skipper Daniel Tucker lost the toss but opposing skipper Jonny Kennedy put Burley into bat, Tucker seeking this fixture as an opportunity to experiment with the batting order. Tucker went out to open with run machine Ian Edworthy, the opening stand proving unsuccessful when surprisingly Edworthy, perhaps making the mistake of one pre-match Peroni too many, fell in the third over. This brought Alec Moorman to the crease and he swiftly set about playing a match-winning innings. His first 8 scoring shots all sailed to the boundary. The pair put on 114 for the second wicket - needless to say Tucker played the supporting act. The partnership was broken when young leg-spinner H Vaughan bowled Tucker for 14. This sparked a collapse, shortly afterwards Alec Moorman tried reaching his ton in style - unfortunately mistiming it and skying straight up to wicketkeeper Jonny Kennedy to fall one short on 99. Wickets fell regularly, number 9 Stuart Pateman (14) the next to reach double figures before having to retire hurt after running a four! Usual opener James Edworthy, batting at 11 today, finished as the second top-scorer with an unbeaten 15. H Vaughan was the pick of the bowlers for Pylewell with 8-1-19-3. His father A Vaughan also picked up three wickets.
In the field Burley were always in control of the game after James Edworthy picked up three quick wickets with his opening spell of spin, before taking over from Alec Moorman behind the stumps. Ian Edworthy also picked up two wickets, while young Daniel Pullen bowled impressively, conceding only 13 runs from his 7 overs. Pylewell's middle order chipped in with useful contributions but they lacked a batsman capable of taking them towards the target, falling 72 runs short on 125-8. Overall, a good game of cricket played in good spirit with all 22 players contributing with either bat or ball, with Pylewell keen to welcome Burley back next year.
