Hospital Services v Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 31 Aug 2014 at 14:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Burley Sunday XI bounced back from defeat the previous week to defeat Hospital Services and take revenge from last season when Hospital Services done the double over Burley. Tucker lost the toss and HSCC captain Wijesinghe decided that his side would bat first in a 35 over contest. Hospital Services got off to a flier and the 100 came up in just the 15th over. Ian Edworthy (7-1-30-3) pegged Hospital Services back and the run out of opening batsman Bamford for 81 reduced Hospital Services to 151-6. A partnership worth 64 between Mercer (37*) and Wijesinghe (29) helped Hospital Services recover to a competetive total of 233-7.

After tea, usual openers Kieron Hudson and James Edworthy got Burley off to a solid start - with Edworthy targeting opening bowler Gibbs. Hudson was the first to fall in the 9th over with 54 on the board. Steve Moorman joined Edworthy at the crease but fell cheaply. Dan Maher joined Edworthy, who was taking advantage of being dropped on 32 and had just reached his half-century. Maher was also put down early and the run-rate had faltered due to the tight bowling of Mercer (7-0-22-2). Burley were 102-2 off 20 overs, requiring a further 132 runs off just 15 overs. However, Edworthy continued to find the boundary and had a capable ally in Maher, who was enjoying a welcome return to form at the best possible time and was playing by far his best knock of the season. James Edworthy brought up his century, but was unable to see Burley over the line as he holed out for a brilliant 122, including 13 boundaries and 4 sixes. It had been a match winning partnership worth 127 in just 15 overs. When Edworthy fell Burley required just another 29 runs from the final 5 overs. Dan Maher (67*) and Ian Edworthy (13*) saw Burley over the line with 8 balls to spare to complete an exciting victory. Hospital Services were made to rue dropped catches and expensive bowling figures - particularly Gibbs, Satguru and Bamford - their combined 13.4 overs costing a whopping 147 runs!!
