Bramshaw v Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 07 Sep 2014 at 14:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 34 runs

Match report Burley Sunday XI finished the season with a fine win away at Bramshaw. Burley started the game with only ten due to a lack of availability for various reasons. Stand-in skipper Alec Moorman won the toss and elected to bat first in a 35 over contest. Moorman chose to mix up the order, dropping himself and James Edworthy down the order to ensure everybody would have the chance to contribute in the game. Burley posted 210-7 thanks largely to opening pair Ian Edworthy (73) and Ray Gunn (51 retired).

After tea, regular skipper Daniel Tucker turned up to see Burley struggling in the field and so after rummaging through the kit bags managed to hunt out some spare kit and join Burley in the field at drinks - Bramshaw going well on 102-2 off 17 overs and appearing to be on the victory march. However, on came Ian Edworthy and Steve Moorman to drag Burley back into the game. Moorman picked up the key wicket of Stickland when he holed out to James Edworthy for an aggressive 65 to end the 3rd wicket partnership at 72. The scenario was 66 runs needed off 60 balls with 7 wickets in hand and so Burley were still very much the underdogs. However, with Ian Edworthy (4-41) and Steve Moorman (4-30) bowling in tandem a further 6 wickets fell in the final 10 overs, with anything hit airborne seeming to fall into the safe hands of James Edworthy who took 5 smart catches! In the end Bramshaw finished on 176-9 and Burley had completed a fairly comfortable victory that was looking unlikely for the majority of the innings.

After the match it was all back to the pub to reflect on a decent season with the stats reading - played 16: won 12, lost 4. Overall, a successful season in which new teams have been welcomed to Burley, as well as the usual oppositions, and Burley have had 5 good away trips including re-establishing fixtures at Abbotsbury and Coombe Bissett.
