Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI v Lex on Sun 31 Jul 2016 at 13:30
Burley Cricket Club Won by 21 runs

Match report Burley Sunday XI got back to winning ways with a well-earned victory over Lex in a game of cricket that was far from conventional. Lex play midweek cricket in an evening league but over the last few years have established a relationship with Burley - with us hosting them in their one and only 40-over game of the season. Because of this, Lex turned up to Burley with a squad of 14. Tucker had 13 Burley players at his disposal so it was agreed that each team would field with 13. (Daniel Tucker and Harvey Farrell-Jarvis the two not listed on the batting card). Burley's team included two debutants - Finley King and Rob Franks - both making fine starts to their Burley careers.
Skipper Tucker won the toss and elected to bat first - Burley racking up 219-5 with Kieron Hudson top-scoring with 62. Franks (29) and Dan Maher (41) also made valuable contributions before 17 year-old Dan Pullen struck his highest ever score - his unbeaten 38 taking Burley up to a competetive total.
After tea Lex sent their four youngsters out to bat the first 10 overs - two pairs batting for five overs each regardless of how many wickets fell (as it turned out Dan Maher and Alec Moorman actually shared 8 wickets between them - just the 2 to Maher officially standing). Once the first 10 overs were out the way it was back to proper cricket. G Esterhuzen was a one-man batting show for Lex as he finished the innings unbeaten on 123 as Lex fell 21 runs short. He rode his luck with Burley shelling several catches in the field but it was a good battling innings nonetheless. Burley used 8 bowlers - with 12 year-old spinner Finley King undoubtedly the pick of the bowlers with an impressive spell of 1-18 off his 5 overs. He was unlucky not to finish with 3 wickets with two catches being dropped off his bowling - the first being quite probably the easiest catch ever to be dropped at Burley - Jim Burry the guilty culprit at slip. Young fin did eventually get the wicket he deserved when C Esterhuzen hit straight to Tucker at deep mid-wicket. Credit must also go to Rob Franks and Dan Pullen for some fine death bowling between them to eventually see Burley over the line.
Next up for Burley is another home game - Compton & Chandlers Ford the visitors.
