Burley Cricket Club Sunday XI v Talbot on Sun 11 Sep 2016 at 13:30
Burley Cricket Club Won by 17 runs

Match report Back to winning ways at last!!!
Burley Sunday XI made a much-needed return to winning ways on the last game of the season - at home to Talbot - a side Burley haven't played before - but a good bunch of lads who will be welcomed back next season. Tucker won the toss and sent out Kieron Hudson and Alex Martin to start proceedings with the bat. After a slow start - 1 on the board from 4 overs - Hudson was soon in to full flow and at his best - Martin, on the other end, was the first to admit - he wasn't! Martin was testing every bit of his bat other than the middle but somehow survived it out until he was caught behind in the 22nd over for 31. Meanwhile, at the other end Hudson had already passed 50. Eventually he was caught at square-leg in the 28th over for a fluent 88 - an innings that saw him go past 1000 runs for Burley for the season. The middle order failed to contribute much - Gunn, Franks, A Moorman all falling for single figures. Dan Maher made a useful 22 before being bowled by A Faccini - much to the amusement of Alex Martin umpiring at square-leg, who just so happened to be testing out his camera work for literally just that one ball of the innings - Dan Maher you were warned! In all fairness Alex probably owes you a beer. (Alex - we all owe you one!). A vital 28 not out from Jim Burry at the end took Burley to 216-6 off their 40 overs and a competetive total had been put on the board - 26 extras also played a helping hand!
Burley started well with the ball - keeping the runs at a minimum - after Burry and Franks' first spells of 5 overs each Talbot only had 19 on the board. Burley made the breakthrough in the 15th over when Alec Moorman ran out C Rochford with a direct-hit from mid-off. First-change youth bowlers Scott Menary and Finley King were impressing with the ball - the 13 year-old pair conceding just 72 in their combined 16 overs - picking up 3 wickets between them. With Talbot having wickets in hand they attacked Marcus Reynolds and Franks' second spell and with 58 needed off the last 8 overs with just 2 wickets down Burley were up against it. However, Burry picked up the key wicket of hard-hitting M West (55), before Gunn made a smart stumping off Menary to see the back of opener Montgomery for 78. Burry, Martin and Menary all held their nerve in the closing overs and Burley closed out the game - Talbot finishing on 199-5.
A good game of cricket that could have gone either way but Burley getting the morale-boosting win in the end to end a season in which they have won 6 and lost 7 games and disappointingly having 7 abandoned due to bad weather. Roll on April 2017!!
