Burley Cricket Club U13 v Michelmersh & Timsbury on Wed 13 Jul 2016 at 18:30
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 60 runs

Match report Burley’s surprise run to the semi-finals of the U13 Cup ended in valiant defeat as the newly-formed team ran up their highest score of the season but still fell short against extremely strong opponents.
Burley had exceeded all expectations by progressing through three rounds of the Cup, but faced daunting semi-final opponents in Michelmersh & Timsbury, who boasted a number of representative players, including those with county honours.
In contrast, most of Burley’s players were either new to the sport or had been persuaded back into cricket after previously giving up the game and the home attack was brutalised early on by Will Whitmore (31 n.o.), who retired in just three overs.
Sam Howson knocked out Noah Cooper’s middle stump but two more M&T players retired before Burley began to make inroads into the visiting batting line-up.
Ben Dukes and Danny De Wet bowled out H Abraham (10) and O Groves (3) respectively, before some alert wicket keeping saw Aaron Piper run out A England (6).
Burley had only conceded a three figure total once before – in their league match against the same opponents – but 155 looked a tall order, particularly after opener Daniel Carter went for a duck after a quixotic run-out decision.
Piers Scott was equal to all that M&T’s attack could muster but wickets began to tumble further down the Burley order.
Charlie Clamp – winner of the players’ player of the season award - has produced a number of stalwart batting performances in 2016 for Burley but was bowled by Whitmore for just five, and was soon followed back into the pavilion by Piper.
Scott Menary (16) proved less susceptible to M&T’s fast bowlers and stemmed the rapid fall of wickets first with Jasper Moossun (3), then Theo Scott (4).
After Menary and then the younger Scott were both caught, Theo’s elder brother Piers returned to the crease with Ollie Fitch.
The visitors had introduced their fast-bowlers in the rapidly encroaching gloom but working with the doughty Fitch, Scott calmly took his score up to 42 not out, giving the home side a positive end to a difficult match.
