Hordle Village v Burley Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 01 Jul 2017 at 14.00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 34 runs

Match report Three consecutive wins for Burley 2nd XI as they managed to defend 126 in a low-scoring encounter away at Hordle Village. One quick look at the wicket and it was clear it was going to be a low-scoring affair and a good toss to win and bowl first. Unfortunately for Daniel Tucker 'heads' was the wrong call and so unsurprisingly Paul Hammett stuck Burley into bat. Lennox Henry got the early breakthrough for Hordle, bowling the in-form Alex Martin in the 6th over with just 5 on the board. Blundell joined Pete Stacey, and after seeing the openers off Blundell tried taking the attack to Adie Hampton, but miscued a skier and was well-held by Henry. Stacey was the next to go, again caught in the deep off Hampton, in the 20th over, for a patient 21. At drinks Burley were 51-3. Ray Gunn played on in the next over which brought Tucker to the middle to join Dan Maher. With Burley limping along on 53-4 and in danger of not reaching three figures, Tucker and Maher realised the importance of batting out the overs. Tucker (5) supported Maher (43) and extras!, in a partnership of 57 to take Burley beyond the 100 mark. Tucker was bowled, and a few wickets fell in the last few overs, including Maher for an invaluable 43, but more importantly Burley batted out the overs and crept up to 126-8, therefore having something to bowl at. Lennox Henry (2-19) and Adie Hampton (3-31) had been the pick of the bowlers for Hordle on an unfavourable batting track and long outfield that saw just 7 boundaries in the innings.
Early wickets were key for Burley, Blundell and Dan Mepham happily obliged - Blundell striking in his 1st and 3rd over with Mepham picking up one in between and suddenly Hordle were 5-3 in reply. Ranjith Reddy (20) threatened with a few big hits before Mepham accounted for his wicket to end the partnership at 29. Martin replaced Blundell and picked up a wicket in his first over, Mepham taking the sharp catch at gully. The very next over Mepham bowled Henry for a duck, before Martin finally bowled a straight one! to bowl Ellis (12) and Hordle were in deep trouble at 53-7 at drinks. After drinks Hordle stuttered along and then with the brilliant Blundell (2-13) and Mepham (3-33) bowled out, Scott Menary and Matty Beck picked up a wicket each to leave Hordle 9 down for 75. Hordle skipper Paul Hammett (18) then decided to take an aggressive approach as well as farming the strike from the number 11. With the score on 92 Matty Beck trapped Hammett LBW with the first ball of the 36th over to ensure a well-earned victory for Burley with all 5 bowlers among the wickets and backed up well by a top team effort in the field after Maher had set the game up earlier with the bat.
Burley picked up 21 of the 24 available points for their efforts and next week play host to in-form Hyde II.
