Burley Cricket Club

Christchurch v Burley Cricket Club U15 on Tue 23 May 2017 at 18:00
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report Burley departed the League Cup in the first round with their heads held high after a battling performance against a strong Christchurch side at Wingfields.
The hosts started strongly and Burley were left to regret putting down a number of catches as Christchurch openers Charlie Rodgers and Frankie Viney both retired.
Good fielding by Toby Fowler came close to a couple of early run outs before Jack Hughes held on to a high catch off Danny de Wet’s bowling to send Cameron Foster back to the pavilion.
Hughes (0-8) was the pick of Burley’s bowlers, while Sam Howson also proved economical. Jonny Wakefield’s fielding prevented a number of boundaries but Christchurch, who play a league above Burley and boast a number of representative players, set a high target.
Dorset county player Henry Hayes opened for Christchurch and made early inroads, but opener Ollie Fitch proved hard to dislodge.
Excellent fielding by Christchurch’s alert cordon restricted opportunities but Scott Menary (9) and Aaron Piper (6) produced some good strokes against fast accurate bowling and both found the boundary.
With Fowler despatched to hospital with torn ligaments in his thumb from a fielding injury, Burley were a man short.
Fitch looked like batting through Burley’s innings only to fall two balls into the final over, leaving Nathan Howson unbeaten for a second match in a row.
Burley lost but with every player batting and bowling the New Forest left with a good evening’s experience in a good-natured encounter with their Dorset hosts.
