Match report Burley Sunday XI made it 4 wins on the bounce win a 3-wicket victory over Wimborne & Colehill. Having lost at home to a strong Wimborne & Colehill outfit last season, this year W & C turned up with just 9 men after a couple of late dropouts. T Butcher carried his bat, finishing unbeaten on 89 as W & C posted 156-5 in their 35 overs. Jonny Blundell was the pick of the Burley bowlers with 2-5 off 3 overs. There was also a wicket apiece for Marcus Reynolds and debutant James Roberts, as well as a direct-hit run-out from Blundell.
In reply Burley lost wickets at regular intervals early on and when Kieron Hudson was dismissed for 36 Burley were stuttering along at 54-4. Roberts was joined by Dan Maher and the pair added 30 for the 5th wicket before Roberts was bowled for 15. Blundell and Maher then took advantage of the gaps in the field and were looking set to knock the runs off before Blundell was adjudged LBW for 23. A quickfire 15 from Dan Mepham kept Burley on track and although he also fell LBW, Dan Maher was unbeaten at the other end in a captain's innings of 35* to guide Burley over the line, in a game where Wimborne & Colehill put up a good fight with only 9 men. Burley travel to Wimborne in a few weeks time for a return fixture and will be looking to complete a home and away double.
