Burley Cricket Club

Ringwood v Burley Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 12 May 2018 at 14:00
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 115 runs

Match report A sloppy performance in the field from Burley II proved costly away at Ringwood and its now two defeats from two for newly-promoted Burley. Electing to bat first, Ringwood skipper Mark Brockway was soon at the crease at number 3 after Alex martin made an early breakthrough in the 2nd over. Brockway and Percy both survived being dropped early on in their innings', the pair putting on 77 together before Mike Moorman had Percy stumped for 19 in the 22nd over. Moorman picked up another couple of quick wickets, followed by Alex Martin taking an athletic catch off Marcus Reynolds at mid-on and suddenly with 4 wickets in 5 overs Burley were back in the game with Ringwood on 114-5 off 27 overs. Burley squandered more chances as Brockway and Watson built a match-winning partnership of 71, Brockway bringing up a century in the process, with the 2nd of three consecutive sixes off of Matty Beck. Burley eventually took Brockway's wicket when he holed out to Tucker at deep square-leg off the bowling of Scott Markham for 110. Alex Martin returned to pick up a couple more wickets in the last over to finish with impressive figures of 8-1-19-3, despite opening up with a ten-ball over! However with Ringwood having got to 211-8, a deflated Burley side would be chasing a lot more runs than they should have been.
After tea, Burley's innings never got going and a combination of good bowling, poor shot selection, and sharp catches all led to Ringwood bowling Burley out for just 96 in the 38th over, with only Stu Pateman (43) applying himself. Alex Martin was the only other batsman to make double-figures, and Burley's miserable day was concluded with Brockway wrapping up a 115-run victory for Ringwood with a double-wicket maiden.
Next up for Burley is another away fixture - this time Hythe & Dibden are the hosts, and Burley II will be looking to pick up their first win of the new season.
