Burley Cricket Club 2nd XI v Bashley V on Sat 26 May 2018 at 13:00
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 78 runs

Match report Not for the first time this season Burley 2nd XI were defeated by a one-man batting line up. In a brutal batting display South African A Hattingh, playing far below the level he should be, struck 19 boundaries and 9 sixes in his knock of 181. With Bashley's tail starting at number 5 it was evident that all hopes lied with the hard-hitting South African, and had Burley been able to take his wicket earlier then they would have comfortably won the game. Jim Burry, returning from injury, impressed with 2-28 in his first appearance of the season. With Bashley on 117-2 after Burry's breakthroughs, getting that 3rd wicket quickly to open up the tail was vital but I Britton supported Hattingh with 49 in a partnership of 163 to take the game away from Burley. Colt, Jack Hughes, playing his first adult game, finally trapped Britton plumb in front before deservedly picking up a 2nd wicket two balls later. Matty Beck, returned for the last over - Alex Martin stumped 'Big Fish', much to the batsman's frustration, before picking up another couple of cheap wickets - Hughes and Beck had picked up 5 wickets for just 1 run in the last 10 balls of the innings. Bashley finished on 281-7 as Burley picked up 3 bowling points for their efforts.
After tea, Pete Stacey and Alex Martin started well but Burley's hopes were effectively ended when Martin was caught for 33, Martin being the only realistic candidate in the Burley line-up who could come close to matching the innings of Bashley's opener. Stacey (41) and Blundell (53) both played very well, with Mark Wheeler (17*) scoring his highest score for Burley to guide Burley past the 200 mark and ensuring Burley would at least pick up maximum batting points in their loss. Just as the previous week, a frustrating game where just one key wicket was the difference between winning and losing. With 4 defeats out of 4 Burley sit in 11th place out of 16 teams, with two byes coming up, Burley 2nd XI will return to action on Saturday 16th June away at Sway III.
