Burley Cricket Club 2nd XI v Brockenhurst II on Sat 23 Jun 2018 at 13:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 71 runs

Match report Burley 2nd XI finally recorded their first win of the season in a well-deserved victory over 5th-placed Brockenhurst II. Skipper, Daniel Tucker won the toss and elected to bat first. Jonny Blundell and Alex Martin got Burley off to a good start, before Blundell (25) was caught behind in the 9th over with 38 on the board. Pete Stacey then joined Martin at the crease and the pair were soon piling on the runs - in a partnership worth 195. The match-defining partnership eventually came to an end in the 39th over when Stacey was stumped for 68 to leave Burley on 233-2 with 7 balls to go. Martin, at the other end, having made a classy century, tried getting Burley up to 250, but holed out to deep mid-wicket with 2 balls to go, departing for 120. The Burley innings ended on a challenging score of 245-3.
In reply, Dan Mepham struck in his first over before Wickinson (30) and Draper (46) scored at a steady rate before James Roberts made the breakthrough by bowling Wickinson. Roberts grabbed his 2nd wicket in the over before drinks with Blundell taking a very good low catch at mid-on. With Brockenhurst on 76-3 at drinks, Burley had the game under control. Shortly after drinks, Burley picked up 3 wickets in as many overs - 2 for Jim Burry, 1 for Dan Maher to leave Brockenhurst on 110-6. The hard-hitting Hardcastle was going well at one end but Burry picked up a further couple of wickets in his last over to finish with 4-35. Burley tried hard to pick up the last 2 wickets to ensure maximum points and did so when Maher had Taylor caught behind in the 38th over before Blundell ran out Hardcastle (43) in the next over to complete a comfortable victory by a 71-run margin.
A good all-round effort from all of the bowlers after Martin and Stacey had played so well with the bat meant a convincing win for Burley bumped them 5 places up the table into 11th place. Next up for Burley is an away trip to Mudeford, who sit one place above Burley in 10th place, after being promoted along with them last year.
