Mudeford III v Burley Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 30 Jun 2018 at 13:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 101 runs

Match report Burley 2nd XI made it back-to-back wins with a resounding victory over Mudeford III on a baking hot day at Wingfields. Skipper Daniel Tucker won the toss and elected to bat first against a Mudeford side who were promoted along with Burley II last season. With regular opener Alex Martin stuck in traffic, wicket-keeper Ray Gunn was given the task of opening the innings with Jonny Blundell. With runs hard to come by early on Burley were thankful of the 19 wides thrown down by the opening bowlers in the first 10 overs to keep the scoreboard ticking. Blundell (10) was first to fall in the 14th over with the score on 48. Alex Martin came to the crease at first wicket down to join Gunn, before the latter was caught on 28 off Ian Hassall - the most economical of the Mudeford bowlers. Dan Maher joined Martin with Burley on 77-2 off 19. The pair pushed the run-rate along nicely, the aggressive Martin passing 50, and taking advantage of being dropped more than once, he looked on course for back-to-back centuries. but unfortunately ran himself out on 90. The pair had put on 127 in just over 17 overs and had got Burley over the 200 mark. Andrew Dilworth came and went quickly, before Dan Maher recorded his first Saturday fifty of the season to get Burley up to an above-par score of 233-4.
Jonny Blundell quickly dismissed both openers to leave Mudeford 18-2 off 9 overs and with Mudeford always well behind the required run-rate wickets fell regularly - with Blundell (8-1-18-3) and Jim Burry (8-2-16-2) doing most of the damage. Dan Mepham and James Roberts both chipped in with a wicket each and the game was concluded with the first ball of the 37th over with Dan Maher picking up his 2nd wicket, taking a high catch off his own bowling, to bowl Mudeford out for 132.
Burley won the game by 101 runs, secured maximum points for the 2nd week running, and jumped above Mudeford into 10th place. Next up for Burley is a challenging fixture - away at table-topping Dorset Indians.
