Burley Cricket Club

Burley Cricket Club 1st XI v Hursley Park III on Sat 12 May 2018 at 13:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report In stark contrast to the previous week, Burley adapted to the early season pitch and produced a calculated run chase to claim their first league victory. Tidy spells of bowling by key bowlers, regular wickets and a 'stand out' century by Kieron Hudson ensured the home side claimed the win and 23 of the available 24 points.
Electing to bat, Hursley openers Mike Brimble and Merv Reeve set about building a total. Burley picked up their first wicket in the tenth over, a change of bowling led to Reeve top edging Wayne Tucker with a simple catch taken at first slip by Kieron Hudson. Brimble was next to fall with the score on 44 caught in the deep by Mark Wetherall for 39. A 3rd wicket stand of 72 between David Coles (41) and Amjad Parvaiz (64) took the total into 3 figures but with Coles departed Parvaiz saw partners regularly depart. Mark Wetherall picked up 2 wickets on league debut in a tidy spell of 9 overs that cost just 25 runs and the returning Charlie Clamp claimed 2 wickets, his 9 overs costing 28. There were also wickets for Wayne Tucker (1-36), James Brown (1-13), Steve Moorman (1-33) and Ben Crowley (1-10). Hursley finished with a total of 178-8, a competitive total on a slow, turning, early season wicket.
Burley's response was measured and calculated scoring the winning runs off of the second ball of the final over. Two lusty blows from Steve Moorman wrapping up victory with 4 balls to spare. Kieron Hudson's 104 not out from 122 balls provided the backbone for the victory. An opening stand of 54 with Alan Wright set the foundation and support from James Brown (20) and in the latter stages Wayne Tucker (16) meant that the required run rate never looked beyond the Burley line up and provided Moorman with the opportunity to score the 5 needed from the last over by crashing the first ball for 4 and then dispatching the second for 6.
Victory will provide the much needed confidence following the previous week's crushing defeat as Burley look forward to entertaining newly promoted Sway II next week.
