Match report Burley followed up last weeks victory over Pylewell Park with success over, bottom of the table, IBM Hursley. Alec Moorman won the toss and elected to field and the Burley attack kept the Hursley batsmen in check with runs hard to come by. Bowling was tight and despite the top 5 batsmen all making starts, none were able to go on. Keetheswaran (41) finished as top scorer but when he was caught by Alec Moorman at mid on off the bowling of Matt Fletcher the innings started to slow further. Fletcher's wicket was one of four in his spell, ending with 4-31 from his 9 overs. Mark Wetherall picked up 2 wickets for 18 runs in another good spell of spin with Craig Doick (1-26) and Mark Wheeler (1-52) the other wicket takers. The Hursley innings finished at 189-9 from their 45 overs.
Burley lost the early wickets of Alan Wright and James Brown in their reply, leaving them at 27-2 but a third wicket stand of 82 between Kieron Hudson (52) and Tilly Callaghan (35) put the Burley reply back on track. Both fell in the middle overs, within three overs of each other, and Burley went on to lose regular wickets with number 5, Mark Wetherall remaining the constant at the other end. It was a stand of 40 for the 7th wicket between Wetherall and Mick Callaghan (25) that kept the momentum towards victory and it was Wetherall who struck the winning runs, hitting Cocking for 4. Burley winning by 2 wickets, picking up 22 points to consolidate their mid table position as we approach the half way point in the league season.
