Poole Town Piranhas v Burley Cricket Club U15 on Tue 05 Jun 2018 at 18:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
Burley produced a savage display with the bat at Poole Grammar School to win their third successive match of the season.
Captain Scott Menary won the toss and opted to bowl but a woeful performance in the field from Burley nearly cost the New Forest side the game.
The hosts were quick to take advantage of lackadaisical fielding from Burley with rapid running right down their batting order.
Alexander Meyer (35no) retired and Billy Michael (23) looked to be emulating this performance until an excellent running catch from Sam Howson off the bowling of Toby Fowler.
Fowler (2-17) was the pick of the Burley bowlers. Danny de Wet was also economical and Jonny Wakefield took a good catch off his own bowling to help Burley gain a fourth bowling point.
Despite this, Poole were quick to take advantage of sloppy fielding and poor backing up to set a total that would have been beyond Burley in previous seasons.
Big-hitting Piers Scott (35no) quickly got stuck into Poole's bowlers and retired after three overs, when Burley had already made 44.
Wicketkeeper Aaron Piper (27) maintained the run rate with a series of good strokes that repeatedly sent the Poole fielders scurrying to the boundary in his best ever batting performance.
After Piper's dismissal, a daunting run rate of 10 an over briefly sagged before Jack Hughes (24no) and Lawrence Taylor (27no) produced some sparkling stroke-play and hit nine boundaries between them as Burley chased the total down with three overs to spare.
