Suttoners v Burley Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 22 Jun 2019 at 13:00
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 21 runs

Match report A weakened Burley 2nd XI succumbed to a disappointing 21-run defeat to Suttoners away at Kinson Manor. Electing to bowl first, Burley bowled Suttoners out in the 38th over for 146 to pick up maximum bowling points. All six bowlers used picked up at least one wicket, with Scott Menary picking up three in one over towards the end of the innings to finish with 3-23, and Dan Maher claimed two victims, as six wickets fell from the 34th over onwards. Gritt top-scored with 34, as the majority of the top order all made starts.
The chase was never going to be easy on a tricky wicket, and with Pete Stacey dropped in the 1st over, and Alex Martin dropped twice in the 2nd over (all in the slip cordon) Burley would have to dig in. This proved to be unsuccessful though as Rendell picked up three wickets, including the in-form Dan Maher, to reduce Burley to 18-3. By the time Rendell (3-13), and Fitzjohn (8-6-4-0) had bowled out Burley were crawling along at 19-3, and going nowhere. Ray Gunn fell for 13, and three more wickets fell in quick succession to leave Burley on 62-7 after 29 overs. Alex Martin was still in, unbeaten on 35, and joined by Tucker, he farmed the strike and took the attack to Suttoners in a last-ditch attempt to get Burley over the line. Hitting boundaries, as well as riding his luck he managed to get to 80, but was bowled attempting another big-hit to end the unlikely victory hopes, when he fell in the 37th over with the score on 109. Dan Mepham and Tucker managed to get Burley up to 125 to claim a fourth batting point but when Mepham was plumb in front, Steve Menary negotiated the last two balls as Burley finished 125-9.
A frustrating defeat for Burley 2nd XI, who on another day would have come out on top with a slightly stronger line-up. Burley 2nd XI drop down to 6th in the league table and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways this weekend when they host Fawley III up at the Burley School Green.
