Burley Cricket Club 2nd XI v Fawley III on Sat 29 Jun 2019 at 13:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 80 runs

Match report Burley 2nd XI bounced back to winning ways with a comfortable victory over Fawley III. On a boiling hot day, skipper Dan Tucker won the toss and confidently elected to bat. Callum Maher got Burley off to a flyer, and looked on for a big score, but he was bowled in the 3rd over for 21. Ray Gunn joined Alex Martin out in the middle, and the pair frustrated the Fawley attack in a partnership worth 146. With both having gone past 50 - Gunn for the first time this season - the partnership came to an end with the first ball of the 34th over, when Gunn was bowled for 52, to leave Burley on 172-2. Dan Maher and Martin upped the run-rate drastically, as the pair put on an unbroken stand of 80 in just 6.5 overs! Maher finished on 25*, while Martin carried his bat for the 2nd time this season to finish 128*, as Burley racked up 252-2, breaking the 250-mark for the first time this season. It was an unbearably hot, long day in the field for the visitors as they toiled away, using nine bowlers, but picking up just one bowling point for their efforts.
In reply, a spell of 8-2-18-3 from Jonny Blundell ensured that Fawley were never going to get close to the target. Mark Wheeler also picked up three wickets (3-37), including the key wicket of Fawley skipper Scott Gregory for 57. A decent effort from Kam Flaxman (41) in the middle-order held up Burley, but after Scott Menary added another to his season's tally, Callum Maher's introduction into the attack saw him pick up 3-8 to bowl Fawley out for 172 in the 39th over, to ensure Burley claimed the maximum 24 points - as they have done in each of their four victories so far.
Burley 2nd XI stay in 6th spot, but will face a tough challenge this weekend when they welcome unbeaten league-leaders Dorset Indians to The School Green.
