Burley Cricket Club 2nd XI v Sway III on Sat 20 Jul 2019 at 13:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
Burley 2nd XI made it back to back wins with another successful run-chase, this time against Sway III. With lots of wet weather on the Friday, Dan Tucker won the toss and put Sway into bat on a slightly damp pitch. Alex Martin and Carl Foster opened the bowling, with Foster immediately making an impact - taking two wickets in two balls in his first over to leave Sway 1-2. Martin got in on the act with two wickets of his own, before Foster picked up a third in his opening spell to leave Sway limping along on 50-5. Mark Wheeler and Scott Menary shared a further three wickets to leave Sway on 81-8, before Sam Harvey came in at 10 to join Kevan Glass. The pair frustrated the Burley attack, taking the score past the three figures, adding 36 for the 9th wicket before Foster returned to bowl Glass for 24. A further 30 was quickly added for the final wicket, as Sam Harvey hit consecutive sixes, and four in total, to bring up his 50, before Dan Maher bowled him to end the innings on 147. Foster was the pick of the bowlers with 4-42.
Pete Stacey and Alex Martin set about the run chase with ease, as the pair went along nicely putting on 88 for the first wicket to break the back of the run-chase. However, after Martin was caught behind for 38, Stacey played on in the next over to depart for 39. James Wakefield was adjudged LBW for 4, but Dan Maher ended Sway hopes with a knock of 30 before being bowled with just 8 runs needed. Ray Gunn (13*) hit the winning runs with Scott Menary at the other end on 4*.
A six-wicket victory for Burley, again picking up maximum points. This weekend Burley 2nd XI make the short journey to New Milton to play their III's.
