Match report Burley Sunday XI claimed a narrow 14-run victory over Wimborne to complete a home and away double over them. Dan Maher won the toss and opted to bat first. George Wilson and Kieron Hudson put on 141 in 16 overs before the aggressive Wilson was trapped in front for 89. Callum Maher only lasted two balls as Parkin pulled things back with a double wicket-maiden. Hudson fell to Parkin shortly after for 42. The in-form Alex Martin knocked up a quick-fire 53 before being stumped, before usual contributions from Alec Moorman and Dan Maher saw Burley post 248-8 in 35 overs, as Wimborne struggled in the field with just nine men.
Both Wimborne openers made starts before both fell in the 30s, one to Marcus Reynolds, the other bowled by Callum Maher, as Wimborne fell behind the required rate. However, with Wimborne needing 65 off the final 5 overs, L Naylor made 36 off just 11 balls, targeting Moorman and Wilson to bring Wimborne back in to contention. However, once Carl Foster bowled H Prince for 56, and Naylor holed out off Wilson, 19 runs were required off the final over, to be bowled by Foster. After conceding three wides at the beginning of the over, Foster kept his nerve as Wimborne fell 14 runs short of the target.
Next up for Burley is a home fixture, as Burley host regular touring visitors Binfield.
