Burley Cricket Club U13 v Littlewick Green on Sat 04 Jun 2016 at 10:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 35 runs
Match report
Burley’s colts side weathered two pitch invasions to clinch a good-natured game with Berkshire touring side Littlewick Green.
A strong batting performance laid the foundations for the home side’s success with four of the home side posting season’s best scores.
Ollie Fitch top scored with 24, while Scott Menary and Toby Colmer both finished on 16 not out.
Charlie Clamp emerged unscathed on 14 before wicket keeper Aaron Piper (15) produced some fine strokes to also post his best score of the season.
In a game played in the pairs formant, Burley’s final pairing of Piper and Piers Scott (14) accelerated the run rate but Littlewick Green also claimed three late wickets to set themselves a target of 318 to win.
Burley struck early with opening bowlers Clamp and Menary taking four wickets in the first four overs, before Littlewick Green’s response was delayed by two separate herds of New Forest ponies joining Burley’s team in the field.
On resumption of play, Danny de Wet claimed his first wicket of the season, while a brace from Jasper Moossun and a double wicket maiden from Menary left the visitors needing 74 to win with four overs left.
Littlewick Green’s final pairing went looking for runs and took every available single, but Burley’s daunting first innings total proved too much for the touring side, who closed on 282 for the loss of nine wickets in a well-played fixture that the two teams hope to repeat next year.
