Redlynch & Hale v Burley Cricket Club U13 on Thu 12 May 2016 at 18:30
Burley Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Burley’s newly founded colts team won their second consecutive league fixture in a thrilling game played out in the Wiltshire twilight.
Every single Burley player made a positive contribution to a seesaw game, where victory was never certain for either side until the very final ball.
Redlynch & Hale were pinned back early on by some tight bowling from Charlie Clamp, Scott Menary and Leo Colmer, while alert wicket-keeping from Aaron Piper restricted the home side mostly to singles.
As Redlynch & Hale took more risks to up the run rate, Sam Howson claimed two wickets through catches from Colmer and Danny de Wet and Ben Dukes managed a fine caught and bowled but home score began to mount.
Toby Colmer stemmed the flow and Piers Scott took a late wicket aided by a Jasper Moossun catch, but 90 looked a testing total.
Scott retired on 31, while Dukes (8) pushed the home field back with a fine four but the game looked beyond Burley as the visitors lost a succession of batsmen cheaply until number nine Leo Colmer (15) rescued a game that was slipping away.
With three overs to go, 24 runs were needed but Colmer hit two boundaries to edge Burley closer to an unlikely triumph.
Only nine runs were needed off the last two over, so the home side introduced pace to their attack in the approaching gloom.
Colmer was unbowed and in partnership with the visiting side’s last batsmen Ollie Fitch the pair dashed between the stumps to run every available single.
With two runs were needed off the final ball, Colmer slammed the ball into a gap between the Redlynch fielders and with Fitch scampered between the wickets to win a thrilling game of cricket and claim the points.
