Burley Cricket Club 1st XI v Whiteparish on Sat 07 Jul 2018 at 14:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Burley continued their recent good form to record a 2 wicket victory against Whiteparish. Asked to bat first Whiteparish made a below par 218-5 in their 45 overs, thanks to half centuries from skipper M Ball (51) and Richie Hamblin (58). Two hundred, however, did look a good result considering early tight bowling from the Burley attack meant that at the first drinks break (15 overs) Whiteparish only had 38 on the scoreboard. The opening partnership reached 92 before Martin Ball was adjudged LBW to Wayne Tucker followed soon after by Jamie Ball, caught at the wicket by Mick Callaghan off the bowling of Steve Moorman for 45. Moorman then accounted for the dangerous Orr caught in the deep by Kieron Hudson but it was S White, whose 33 alongside Hamblin took the total to 218 with Tilly Callaghan (2-57) picking up 2 late wickets.
In reply Burley lost Alan Wright to his first ball but a stand of 65 between Kieron Hudson and Tilly Callaghan that again got the innings back on track, until Callaghan was bowled for 10. Then a stand of 64 between Hudson and Craig Doick put Burley well and truly in charge before Hudson was caught for 81. Doick continued but did lose partners along the way and when he fell for 74 the scores were level, leaving Steve Moorman to again be the man to hit the winning runs. Another 21 points keeps Burley well positioned in the middle of the Count 4 West Division table with a trip to high flying Paultons next on the fixture list for the forest men.
