Burley Cricket Club 1st XI v Shrewton II on Sat 22 Jun 2019 at 13:00
Burley Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report Burley eased to victory over Shrewton by 8 wickets on a slow, low Forest track, taking the maximum 24 points from a one sided affair on the School Green. Asked to bat first, Shrewton made heavy weather of scoring runs with only Tom Pottage showing any aptitude and resilience to the conditions. His 83 was the stand out score for the visitors. When he fell, bowled by Tilly Callaghan in the 29th over, the Shrewton quest for runs fell away. Things could have been so much easier and quicker for Burley had Jim Burry held onto a simple return catch from Pottage in his first over (Pottage still not off the mark at that stage). It was Burry again who put Pottage down on 52 off the bowling of Mark Wheeler. However, the drops would not prove costly, Tilly Callaghan had already picked up 2 wickets by the time she bowled Pottage and the Shrewton batsmen could not find a way to attack Mark Wheeler and he also claimed 3 wickets. James Brown finally found a way to take more than one wicket in an innings, taking 2-19 and Steven Moorman finished the Shrewton innings claiming the last two wickets in a short two over spell.
In reply Burley also found runs less than easy to come by, Alan Wright was caught and bowled by Joe Wood off of a leading edge for 8 from 47 balls and a stand of 50 between Kieron Hudson and James Brown was broken when Hudson was bowled by Chris Newbury for 39 having survived a couple of scares along the way (caught off of a no ball and also dropped at mid on). However, an unbroken stand of 75 between Brown (69*) and Alec Moorman (28*) ensured Burley of victory with 12 overs to spare, setting them up for the short journey to Pylewell Park next Saturday and consolidating their position in the top half of the County 4 West league table.
