Burley Cricket Club 1st XI v Dorset Indians on Sat 29 May 2021 at 13:00
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
Finally league cricket started on the school Green for the 1st XI after three washed out weeks and the club handed league debuts to 5 players and welcomed back Clive Mills. Fortune was not with Burley as they slumped to a 6 wicket defeat at the hands of the Dorset Indians. Asked to bat first regulars, Kieron Hudson and James Brown found runs hard to come by. With Brown departing, LBW, for 22 followed shortly after by, captain, Alec Moorman (also LBW) at drinks Burley stood at 72-2. A run rate just over 3.5 and 8 wickets in hand promised a competitive total on a track still drying out from the three weeks of rain that had wiped out the first weeks of the season. However, Hudson feathered the third ball after drinks to the keeper and began a procession of the remaining 8 wickets for just 23 runs. Debutant Simon Webster gave some resistance and his 11 alongside Brown and Hudson (19) were the sole double figure scores. In reply the Indians lost opener, Amit Bhatt second ball, caught at slip by Hudson off of the bowling of Jim Burry and by drinks had lost 3 more wickets all to the bowling of James Brown (with first catches for the club for Martyn Webster and Greg Roy) and stood at 74-4. However there was to be no collapse of Burley proportions and without further loss the visitors coasted past the target of 96 in just the 25th over.
Things may only get tougher for the forest outfit as they travel to, table-topping, Laverstock and Ford next week.
