Mottisfont v Burley Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 07 May 2022 at 13:00
Burley Cricket Club Lost by 52 runs
Match report
Once again, Burley succumbed to the batting of Richard Blake, who has become somewhat of a nemesis for them, and it was his innings that stood as the difference between the two teams. A good performance in the field saw Burley bowl their hosts out for 220 in the final over. Taking all 10 wickets has become a rarity in recent seasons and avoiding conceding full batting points marked a step forward. James Brown was the pick of the Burley bowlers taking 4-44 but encouraging spells from the other bowlers gives hope for the campaign! 220 seemed a fair score on a bouncy track and Burley were left wondering what the Mottisfont score would have been without 120 from Blake.
In reply Burley started in steady fashion. A new opening partnership saw Tom Osborne join Kieron Hudson at the top of the order. An opening stand past 50 set the foundations for a successful run chase but once the innings slipped behind the required rate it never recovered. Hudson's 72 and 33* from James Bockett the highlights in a chase that just lacked the acceleration to put the Mottisfont bowlers and fielders under significant pressure. However, 8 points in the bag and encouraging signs as Burley move on, hosting Shrewton on the School Green in a weeks time.
